About

We are Bruce and Sharon Brown.
We already moved to Acapulco, GRO Mexico, and, now we're ready to get out of the heat. We've heard of a wonderful place on the planet called "Boquete", or "The Gap", in english.

It's in the western edge of Panama.

This blog is about our moving there with our two children, Joshua and Mahlin.

Things I can do from here

Tuesday, 07. August 2007 by Bruce Brown

I’m finding there are things that I can do from here to help the move.

Checking the immigration attorney. I’ve found a way to check the credentials of attorneys in Panama vis-a-vis how effective they are in obtaining pensionado visas.  I went to the National Directorate of Immigration for the Republic of Panama’s web site.  There, you can check to see how experienced, and the success rate, of individual lawyers in visa matters.  Go HERE and in the “Lawyer” blank put in the first or last name of the attorney your checking.  In the nationality, you can choose yours, if you like, and then click Search You’ll see the applications and results of the applications for visas for that attorney.  I found it to be very useful information, and we chose an attorney yesterday with the help of that information.

Clarifying with Sharon

Note from Bruce:  Sharon took this picture of herself (by extended arm) at her hotel in Boquete.  She had just received a hair coloring for $20.  The color turned out to be exactly the same as that of her hair dresser smile

We’ll looks like we’re moving.

Some questions to Sharon were:

“Well honey, is Boquete good enough that if money was no issue, and we could live in Boquete or near our families in Duluth, Minnesota, USA, would Boquete be an attractive option?”
Or,
“If you could move all your friends/family to Boquete, or you could move to your friends/family in Duluth, where would you have them all live?”
Or,
“What don’t you like about Boquete?”
“What seems to be good for us in there?”
“What do you want to do?”
“How would our family life be different if we moved there vs. moving back to USA or staying in Acapulco?”

An Emotional day in Boquete

Well, I woke up and felt very overwhelmed by all that is happening.........I mean, the reality of my “mission” here in Boquete really sunk in today.  I looked at a possible rental home, went to Mass at St. John the Baptist church here in town......and did a lot of praying and some crying.  I’ve been able to look at a few rental homes here in Boquete, and was trying to visualize my family in them.......wondering, would we like it here?  Would we enjoy this home?  I’m a big worrier most of the time, and need to really pray more.  I have felt pretty brave and excited about all of this so far, but just got a little out of sorts today.  I have met some wonderful people here in Panama and am very thankful for this opportunity to visit such a beautiful country, especially the town of Boquete.  It is very peaceful here.  I hope and pray that we can live here, and that all the details will work out for us to move and live here.

Note from Bruce:  This is a picture Sharon took of Boquete that day.  I think it’s beautiful.  Sharon says that the afternoon rains are regular this time of year, but that she looks forward to them --they are peaceful.

I sent my wife to Boquete, Panama!

Sunday, 05. August 2007 by Bruce Brown

Well, they say if momma’s not happy, aint nobody happy*.  We’ve decided to investigate moving to Boquete, Panama from our current home in Acapulco, Mexico.  And, we have money for (less than) one plane ticket.  So, it was decided that my wife Sharon would be best able to judge whether our family would like to live there.  From all accounts on the internet, it seems we would want to move there soon.  But, we needed a forward party --and she’s Sharon.

*Anyone who knows Sharon knows that she only makes us happy.  So, this is the blog we’re starting about our investigation and possible move to Boquete.

I got the idea for this web site from a wonderful blog by Lee at a great web site called Boquete Guide.  Lee has already been helping us so much.  Go to his blog, it’s great reading and full of very good information.

Life’s been weird since I got Lupus in the ‘80s, lost a legal career, and started many adventures in trying to live as a young disabled man.  A wonderful event happened in 1999 --I married Sharon.  I love my 21-year-old daughter Brittany, and she’s out of the home.  I adopted Sharon’s natural son --Joshua (13).  And we had our baby girl, Mahlin (5).

I warned Sharon it was for better or worse when we got married, and she’s been hanging on for the ride ever since.
